Transparency Is A Joke

February 21, 2013 in Nation by John House

transparancyRecently the president has bragged about how transparent his administration is. I thought I would choke on my coffee when I heard that. Questions about Fast and Furious plagued us for months so that I remain unconvinced that we really learned the truth. A number of people from the administration have provided testimony about Benghazi but the accounts don’t agree and some just don’t make a lot of sense. So I’d say the Obama administration is good at talking but not good at explaining or at taking responsibility for its actions. They continue to rely on the gullibility of the American voter and that has worked well overall. President Obama did win reelection.

Even if the Obama administration was really transparent, I don’t know that it would matter. The media is by and large determined to ensure that the Democrats win any fight. The Republicans are pathetic at public relations. I hate saying that but it’s true and did not start yesterday or even in 2008. These problems have existed for a long time and I don’t see them ending anytime soon. Most journalism schools and frankly most university level professors I’ve known are liberal. Therefore, the young newsroom product tends to lean Left. Couple that to the Republicans being unable to coherently explain anything, and it’s no wonder that the Left wins the information battle.

Let’s face it. If you can do little and make a survivable living with having no personal responsibility for your actions, many people will take that option. Why work if you can survive and do nothing? If you don’t bear responsibility for children you father, why hang around? Let the mother handle them and the government pay for them. We face a crisis of personal responsibility that is abetted by the government just like many political leaders refuse to accept responsibility for their actions. A lot of people say the Founding Fathers would not be happy. Heck, I think Harry Truman, a Democrat, would not be happy.

With regard to an intelligent electorate, if you have not heard about the letter to the editor apparently read on the radio by Rush Limbaugh, check this link:  http://www.carolinacoastonline.com/news_times/opinions/letters_to_editor/article_8065cdfa-6a1c-11e2-a753-001a4bcf887a.html. I have to say that this is scary and it appears to be real. The link goes to the newspaper that originally published the letter. I can only hope someone wrote in as a gag. If people who vote really think this way, it’s no wonder that a poll worker in Ohio has now admitted to voting multiple times for President Obama and apparently sees nothing wrong (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/02/19/ohio-poll-worker-obama-supporter-investigated-for-potentially-voting-six-times/). There are some really confused people casting ballots.

So between the laughable level of transparency and an uninformed public that is voting, I admit that I am concerned for the republic. We really seem to be drifting off course and too many people in government simply want to continue to feed at the government trough. We voters need to send a bunch of people packing but as a group we lack the wisdom or courage to do so.
