Fiscal Tap Dancing
January 6, 2013 in Nation by John House
Our illustrious Congress has now passed a bill to avoid the fiscal cliff. Some folks including many in Washington are pleased with the results and spinning the outcome to appear to be a victory of some kind for somebody. Really all we have done is delay the disaster. Our leaders have “kicked the can down the road” once again. Frankly we, the American citizenry, deserve it. We sat back and allowed President Obama to be elected. Fiscal conservatives also lost ground in the Senate. As a people we deserve a catastrophe even if I hope somehow we can avert one. We cannot spend more money than we have and we must elect people who know that.
I remain stunned that educated people, even liberals, cannot get their brains wrapped around a concept I learned as a child. No one can spend more money than they have forever. Were these people dropped on their heads as children? Or are they simply and only so cynical that they do not care? Are they so conceited and self-centered that the impact on the economy and real Americans is beneath their level of care and concern? Steadily increasing the level of debt must end or the government must print money to cover its obligations. Printing money will drive inflation through the roof. Inflation will destroy the little left in many pension funds and wallets used for daily purchases. This is simply crazy and anyone with half of a brain should be able to understand that no one can spend money that is not available. Someday the bill must be paid.
How then can we citizens continue to put people in office who lack this basic understanding of fiscal responsibility? We’re supposed to have some sense, too. Yet we continue to place liberals in power who have no fiscal sense. Our president leads the pack on this. Instead of addressing changes to spending that must occur, he is more interested in trying to embarrass Republicans and lord it over them that he won reelection. How can we citizens do this? We’ve now delayed the sequestration issue a couple of months, which adds to the indecision and inability to plan. Our enemies should be thrilled because this lunacy is an obstacle to planning and execution of operations.
So I must “thank” our congressional, House and Senate, leadership and the president. You are placing my existence at risk because as a group you are incompetent and more worried about yourself than you are this nation. Shame on all of you. Your collective malfeasance is disgraceful.
